I have heard it so often from people that they do not know how they are performing at work or what plans their company has for them. They are not sure they are going to get promoted or even if they qualify for a promotion. Not many people are told exactly what is going to happen to them with their career in an organization but you can survey the landscape and get a pretty good idea where you stand at any particular point in time. The other piece that people need to realize is that not everyone can or should be promoted. Companies want to retain promotable employees.
